Re: Where are your crabbies?
Bedroom. On top of a dresser was the only unused space in the house big enough for a tank of some kind. Added bonus for that location - all the cords go behind the dresser, so the cats can't chew on them and the kids can't trip on them or mess with them. Still figuring out where to stage the folded ...

Re: hermit crab hut help needed
You could, but I think a better choice might be an old plastic cottage cheese container. Or anything plastic, really. Coffee cup turned on its side with a bit of substrate in it for traction. Old clay pot on it's side. Anything tupperware. They have a lot to choose from at the thrift store. I would ...

Re: Many lost limbs on one side from unsuccessful molt
This is like day 4 of things going south for her noticeably. I don't have much sub because most of it was flooded and discarded when i moved. She then went into a surface molt, but had a bottle. If she lost the legs the same day as the molt, then she lost them 7-31, more or less, but i only noticed...

Re: Many lost limbs on one side from unsuccessful molt
The fun bit is gonna be increasing the sub inch by inch while tending for her and being aware of crabs who are either molting or likely destressing. Do i just soak the end of the q tip in honey and sick the dry end in the sub, or actually feed it to her? Either one, as long as the crab can reach it...

Re: Meet my new three (and probably last)
Looks like your crab in the red shell has a gel leg. They look healthy! Congratulations on the new crabbies! Is it a gel leg? I thought it was a molt sac. [emoji848] Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk If you look, you can see it's shaped like a tiny leg. Also, it's light peach and translucent in ...

So very sorry Freckles!!!
It's not your fault. They go through so much to get to us, sometimes there's just not much you can do.
At least she's in good conditions now, and if she dies, you'll know you made her last days happy ones. My heart goes out to you.

Welcome to HCA!!! Everyone has given you some good advice, so I don't really have much to add. Just welcome :) If you want your pictures to work, you'll have to download the tapatalk app, then open HCA website using Tapatalk, and then upload pics using the tapatalk app. Most of the time, when you do...

Re: Is this marine salt hermit crab approved?
If you mix according to the instructions on the box (also stated by Wodesorel), it will come out to the correct salinity.

Re: Good Hygrometer/Thermometer Combo?
Thanks for the info. Don't have a lot of spots I can fit it in my small 10 gallon, but I'll make it work. Yea, I had the same problem with finding space in my 10 gallon after adding 6" of substrate. Hence my need for second levels. Here's what I did, for instance. Messy, but might give you a few id...

Re: I did it again.
Beautiful color on them! What nice big babies!
The lack of bristles on their legs makes me sad.
I avoid Petsmart and Petco too. For the same reasons you guys both said. I see the lack of bristles, and the shells that are too small, and I just want to help them molt!

Re: Good Hygrometer/Thermometer Combo?
Hey, I was wondering if anyone could reccomend some digital Thermometer/Hygrometer combos for my crabitat. I've used 3 analog ones so far (All broke fairly quickly!) and I want to obtain something of higher quality. I have a 10-gallon aquarium, in case that's relevant. Please help! AcuRite https://...

Re: Zoo Med Terrarium Moss - Is it Safe?
It's safe. It's sphagnum moss. There were a bit of sticks and wood chips in mine too, I just wash the sticks and wood chips out in a bowl of dechlorinated freshwater, wring out the moss, and stick it in the crabitat. My crabs love to munch on it. Zoo Med also sells the same moss that's dyed green. D...
