Questions about building a topper

Hello, I have a 40 gallon breeder I'm wanting to put on top of my 75 gallon tank. I thought about just flipping it without removing the bottom glass because I'm afraid of breaking the tank but then I realized how little access I'd have to a vast majority of the crabitat. To remove the bottom pane of...

Re: Do you think this is normal behavior?

Hello, In the short while I've had Egg and Papaya (jumbos), I've only seen them do a few things. During the day, they climb up onto a branch or cork flat and huddle up next to each other. They will sometimes shift positions a few inches but mostly stay put. At night around 8 pm, they climb down and...

Re: New 75 gallon!

Nice upgrade! The topper will look great!! I just want to make sure your sand isn't too wet- it looks it in the picture. It should be sandcastle consistency- no water at the very bottom. If you pick up a handful of sand and squeeze it no water should come out. Please also be aware that jumbos take ...

Re: New 75 gallon!

Maybe I just don't see it but do you have any hiding huts? They aren't necessary but my crabs love to sleep in them. 4 PPs and a dog Crabbing since Jan '17 They are huge guys in 4.5 in shells! I haven't seen hiding huts that could accomodate that so I made a dark covered area with the cork flats. T...

Re: New 75 gallon!

I love it! So exciting to see you and the tank come along! How deep is your sub? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk Thank you! :) It is 10 in !on the right but way lower on the left. Partly to fit the wood so that the crabs couldn't get too close to the top, partly because I ran out of sand lol. ...

Re: Newbie-- questions about if I'm doing it right!

Aww, Atlas is so cute! :D

But thank you, I'm totally in love with them already. I've named them Egg and Papaya haha. Based on what each of them has been really crazy about eating. I read that their preferences often change but I wanted something gender neutral and it just grew on me!

New 75 gallon!

Hello, I got a couple of jumbos (Egg and Papaya) a few days ago and, after doing research and talking to people on here, I quickly upgraded their tank to a 75 gallon. With how much substrate they need, it really doesn't leave much room for climbing so I'm considering using the 40 gallon breeder I or...

Re: Newbie-- questions about if I'm doing it right!

The first two shells were smaller than their current ones so I didn't even put them in there with them. I did contact Naples Seashell for advice and then ordered 7 shells with openings ranging from 2 1/4"-3". There's gotta be some winners in there! I also got the 75 gallon tank! It was formerly a sa...

They definitely look smaller in this pic but maybe this is a better representation of their size.

Re: Newbie-- questions about if I'm doing it right!

Ah, and I have a gauge very similar to that Accurite one that was just in the house. I've been using that but it is a bit big (almost as big as the crabs!) so I'll probably go pick one of those up from Walmart. :)

Re: Newbie-- questions about if I'm doing it right!

Thank you everyone! :) After more research and consideration, I've decided to try to get them a bigger tank and (hopefully) return this one. If I can clean the sand out 100%, I'm sure they'll take it back. As long as I can borrow my mom's SUV (a 75 gallon won't fit in my little Nissan), I can go get...

Newbie-- questions about if I'm doing it right!

Hello, I'll first admit that I was sort of irresponsible and impulsive in my decision to get hermit crabs again (I had them briefly as a child but didn't know how to take care of them correctly then and they all died when it came time to molt) and am disappointed that I was misinformed by my knowled...
