My E's shell modification

My tiny E ditched his moon shell in favor of a green turbo tonight. I took it out to see if he'd managed to modify it in the couple months he'd been wearing it and he did! Pretty cool to see. I put it back near him in case he decides he made a mistake in switching lol. https://i.imgur.com/AYRYLtv.jp...

Re: I moved my tank... *And now I've cracked the glass top

Update: it has finally risen to a nice 81 degrees. Wode was right about it needing hours (upon hours) to even out in a large tank. It's crazy how much the reflectix helps! I haven't had the time to get the tape yet but it's on the agenda for tomorrow. Luckily, the crack doesn't seem to be affecting ...

Re: Coming back!

Welcome! I got two straws with sheer dumb luck after popping into a reptile store that I was driving by. I had been there before but they didn't have crabs, just typical reptiles and amphibians (and hedgehogs). I had no specific inclination for exotics before that but I knew I couldn't pass up the o...

Re: I moved my tank... *And now I've cracked the glass top

Yeah, it was not a great start to the day. :( I'm going to go out and get some of that tape you suggested tomorrow. If all else fails, I'll just avoid using it until after the holidays and can better afford replacing it. When I came home, it had only risen to 73 degrees but that's the same as the ro...

Re: I moved my tank... *And now I've cracked the glass top

Went out, bought Reflextix, put it up... After 20-30 mins, temp gauge hadn't moved. My brilliant idea was to put a ceramic heat emitter on top of the tank for the remaining 30-45 mins I had before I had to leave for work. I thought it would be okay because I have it on a dimmer. While I'm getting dr...

Re: I moved my tank without thinking-- worried about molters

I only thought about it because my bf made a coy comment like, "I bet they [the crabs] were all like, 'Noooo, an earthquake!'" But, good, I'm glad to know that I probably didn't do something terrible. On a related note, it was good that I had the instinct to put the UTH on last night. Even with it, ...

I moved my tank... *And now I've cracked the glass top

Hello, I had to forcefully push my heavy 75 gallon + topper tank a few inches away from the wall in order to get the UTH on there. (It's finally dropping below 75 in their tat). I did it without thinking about the potential for collapsing tunnels. I have at least 3 crabs down. One is definitely molt...

Re: White straws?

I re-read the care guide, where I easily found the answer to my own question! Yes, young straws can be pale. ;)

Pretty cool though.

White straws?

Hello,

I was browsing the Encyclopedia of Life and, on their entry for strawberry hermit crabs, they have pictures of a couple white/pale tan colored crabs. Are these misidentified or can straws really look like that?

Re: Re-did the crabitat a little

Love it!! Fantastic job!! I love all of the climbing areas and hideouts. I also had to recently add some more EE to boost the humidity! It’s done wonders :) I like how you have the smaller tank on top. I’m waiting for some aquarium silicone to come so I can do the same with our 20 g on top of our 5...

Re: Anyone know how to sanitize polyurethane foam for beardi

Upon closer inspection, it's porous. They painted it or added color somehow but it's not finished with anything that covers the foam. I was thinking of spot testing both steam and ammonia or bleach but, given that it's porous, would you advise against using it?

Anyone know how to sanitize polyurethane foam for beardie?

Hello, I bought a magnetic ledge made out of polyurethane foam resin on Amazon for my bearded dragon. It was sold as "used- like new" and I didn't think much of it until earlier today. I realized it could've been in contact with a sick animal, you just never know, and I would hate to make such a mis...

Re: Re-did the crabitat a little

Thank you guys! I think I want to add one more branch in there but I'm waiting to find the perfect one. It's fun to move things around, even if it's minor. It made me realize that my isopods are thriving too cuz I saw what felt like a million babies lol. About my water dishes...They're Pyrex and I t...

Re-did the crabitat a little

I changed things up a little and you guys are the only ones I can share it with that care. My bf pretends, bless his heart, but he doesn't get it like we do! Lol. Since it's been getting colder, my humidity has been dropping faster than before so I added a brick of eco earth to hopefully help a litt...

Re: Question about Es and shells

My little guy took a couple weeks to change from his painted babylonia to a natural moon shell. I'm pretty sure he was interested in changing back into his painted shell but I managed to be around to notice. He clung onto it for a couple seconds as I pulled it away and then ran around, antennae wavi...
