Re: How can my little brother help?

What a good sibling you are! You can def teach him which fresh foods he can prepare for the crabbies and how- that doesn’t have to involve sharp objects- and make it his job to... idk, maybe keep a record of the daily temp and humidity readings (I’m sure you know how to make this sound as important ...

Re: Olive oil

Do you mean how to give or what type? I used a plain plastic bottle cap lid for coconut oil and sat it in a shell last night. Dave clearly chowed down! I don’t know which type would be best other than organic fresh cold pressed, beyond that I would say just depends on you. HTH! Sent from my iPhone u...

Oh heck that’s easy enough then! I knew it had to be something simple. Thank you- you have been a wealth of knowledge/answers for me, I appreciate it.

Re: Eaten alive

So sorry for your loss. We lost one of our original two- and that truly was our fault. (Unequivocally, long story.) It doesn’t sound like you did anything truly wrong, and even if he did actually eat him.... it’s gross and unthinkable to us but it’s so normal to them. And, there’s no way to know, it...

Re: Upgrading to a more suitable home. My first real scapeing attempt.

Yes! Too true. Maybe a silly question, but are those nets all made out of the same thing, and if so what? If not is there a certain type I need to watch for more than another? That is actually one of my main goals for Feb, to upgrade the back wall and maybe side too! So- net- where to find? Anywhere...

How do you cut plexi glass. Or were you able to find it premeasured? Sent from my LGL157BL using Tapatalk What they said- sharp knife/object and straight edge- make sure to score it significantly allll the way end to end for a clean snap, but no need to cut halfway thru it either. And yes to the ey...

Shell fight???

Awesome! I was hoping it wouldn’t be too much harder than that. I hate to say I’m ‘practicing’ on any animal, but you know what I am getting at there; I am looking forward to practicing for a while with the slightly more hearty crabs, and then when I’m sure the kids aren’t going to totally abandon m...

Re: Loves the Hygrometer?

Thanks! What an awesome thing you did there! Those jumbos- wow. I assumed that was the case when you said the living situation had changed for them- bc nobody gets them to that large size and has them for that long without truly caring for them in both senses. Sad she had to let them go I’m sure! Wo...

Dishes

I actually saw those in some pics and was thinking how awesome they are- thanks for the link! This may be the perfect alternative, I was thinking someone ought to be making something along these lines. Mucho gracias Edit: I talked to the hubbs and he told me to go ahead and get one of the pea pod on...

Loves the Hygrometer?

[emoji38][emoji854] Crazy crazy crabs. [emoji1787] I wish I could find some near me to either adopt or, well, I hate to straight up buy but I am NOT having any luck finding any to adopt anywhere even semi-local. I call that a 4 hour drive, so I mean, wow! I have seen one for adoption/purchase in loc...

Re: Dishes

Thank you! That was my understanding. If they need to be able to do this, why are there such crappy shallow dishes they try to say are ok? Guess it’s just like most everything else out there marketed for crabs; Take whatever it says with a dose of skepticism and come to find the answer for ourselves...

Re: Dishes

I do have the food and water dish combo, but the one was so shallow that if anyone moved the water there was a low spot that made it leak out pretty badly. They just aren’t deep at all I didn’t think. Mine aren’t at least! Also, am I imagining this or did I read it somewhere else? I thought they wer...

Re: Hi! Overdue intro here....

Welcome to the board! As for handling the crabs, its very much a personal thing. Even though many members prefer not to handle their crabs, and HCA encourages people with a hands off approach... HCA is also a place that recognises that there's no one right way to do things. If you do want to handle...

Re: Loves the Hygrometer?

Mostly I was amused, but that type of thing always makes me wonder what they DO actually sense coming from that type of thing, whether a slight magnetic pull or some small noise that we can’t hear- far fetched perhaps, but we learn something new every day! I just laughed and said he finally made a f...
