Re: Why have a UVB light if hermit crabs hide all day?
Heat rises, but that's a large margin. For more active crabs try to raise your substrate temperature. This will most likely raise your upper level temp. which is fine. All in all, raise your temperature for more active crabs.

Re: Fogger/dehumidifier with glass with UTH?
To set up a bubbler you will need a small air pump, tubing that connects to it, preferably a gang valve to change the pressure, and an air stone. Connect the pump to a bit of pipe, the pipe to the valve, another pipe to the output, and then the end of the pipe to your air stone. You will want those ...

Re: Why have a UVB light if hermit crabs hide all day?
Yes they are new. The temperature is between 72-80, and the humidity is about 70-80 at substrate level. I made a 3d background for a 75 gallon tank before I knew anything about can crabs. With that said my form of heating is one small space for the UTH and 2 moonglow 60w . I have moss and a bubbler...

Re: Crab breaks load bearing stick
Yes, *sigh*. I have replaced the supports with more twine, I couldn't imagine them trying to break twine, however anything's possible. We'll see what happens.
I bet he got pretty freaked out when those shells came falling down on him. We can only speculate.

Re: Resurrection Plant
I was thinking an air plant that could kind of hang off, or drape over, somehow. For now I can't find anything but I will continue my search for nice broms. I suppose it'll probably come to me getting a few air plants and bunching them together against a hanging stick. I remember somebody on this fo...

Crab breaks load bearing stick
I have a small platform holding a few shells and just blank space. It is suspended against the glass by some twine and two skewers. When I came back to check on the crabs, the skewers were snapped and the shells had fallen from the platform. I noticed that a crab was wearing a shell that was up on t...

Re: Resurrection Plant
Ok then. I'll look for a good viney bromeliad that'll cover up my background's bald spot.

Re: Resurrection Plant
Yes I know they'll eat/drink whatever they come across. The bowl will be hanging so it'll most likely be out of reach for drinking from. I'm just not sure if it's safe for them to eat.

Resurrection Plant
So I have a patch of empty background right above the second level. I was thinking I'd suspend a very shallow bowl of fw. This water wouldn't be for drinking. I was wondering if a resurrection plant/dinosaur plant (Selaginella lepidophylla) would be safe for the crabbies. It is native to deserts, bu...

Re: What to keep in a lil tank
With adequate filtration, very small species of snails (usually considered pests, but still neat little dudes) or shrimp would do well so long as the tank is planted and well maintained. I had looked at opae ula shrimp for a tiny tank before, but I have crap luck with shrimp so didn't want to make ...

What to keep in a lil tank
So my sister kept a beta fish in a one gallon tank and since it passed she has no use for the tank. I want to keep something a bit cooler in that tank but I'm assuming nothing can really be kept in such a small tank. I also think even a beta shouldn't be kept in such a small tank. What use could I p...

Hey, what type/size of tank do you keep him/her in? I've always admired those crustaceans and their colors.

Re: Suggestions for backgrounds
How do you all keep your climbing background on the tank? Mine came with adhesives but since I haven't finished the tank, I haven't introduced any moisture, and they're already peeling. I'm concerned that they won't stay up at all once I spray the tank. Anyways, what do you use for keeping your back...

Re: Tank/ rescued hermit
While you have the chance you may want to identify the species. Then once you get your heat (75°- 82°) and humidity (70%+) to regulation give it some more organic "people food". Once it eats some of that, give it a bit of honey to boost the energy. Oh and definitely read the care guides.
Good luck!
