Re: Hermit crab out of shell and pale!
This is what he looks like right now. He will be still and then go and eat and move a little and then kind of go back to this. His abdomen is tucked in, I couldn’t reshell him

Re: Hermit crab out of shell and pale!
I tried having him back into a shell and he is tucking his abdomen in and he is so weak :( I feel a little helpless. Honestly, I got these hermit crabs because my son came home with one after visiting his father and so I bought more and started learning how to care for them but I don’t like touching...

Re: Hermit crab out of shell and pale!
I meant unbury the other one and the substrate seems like the right consistency to me. I guess I am freaking out because I don’t want to hurt him and I have NEVER backed a crab into a shell so idk I’m going to try and ok I will have to change my water and salt. I got a fish water dechlorinator once ...

Re: Hermit crab out of shell and pale!
I haven’t touched hon because everything online I saw said to leave him alone. He doesn’t look right to me. I can’t believe I could’ve collapsed their tunnels. Should I I bury my other one that’s under and make sure she’s ok??? I don’t use an digital hydrometer thermometer so I will get one soon. An...

Hermit crab out of shell and pale!
Substrate is 50/50 play sand and coconut, temp stays 75-80 and humidity 80, I feed meats, veggie, fruit, some nuts and egg shells, they have salt water and fresh water, plenty of shells to choose from, deep enough substrate to bury, I have 2 medium and 2 small crabs. So everything has been great for...

Hermits not eating! (Yes me again...I have a crab issue every month!)
I’ve done this so much so I am summarizing the basics: 20 gallon tank with half and half eco earth and play sand, I’ve got 4 hernies, 2 small and 2 medium and I’m not sure species, they have salt water and fresh water available, they have a couple heating pads and the humidity stays around 80 and th...

Re: Not sure if it’s an emergency or normal?! Newbie here
It’s been maybe a month since they’ve had deep enough substrate and the newbie crabs buried immediately. But my regular crabs still hung out on the top until I guess they realized they could bury and so now they are gone lol no foul odor so that’s good. It’s just I was so used to seeing them all the...

Re: Help! I am freaking out!
Thank you! I will def work on insulating and will search for the best way to do that. I am stopping the heat lamp and adding water to that side to moisten up the substrate and also I just need another heat lamp. I give them egg shells for calcium. I’m not sure what brand. I have to check. It’s one t...

Re: Help! I am freaking out!
Also....I am no longer using the heating lamp. I just know it needs to be warmer than 70 :-/ I am looking for a better heating pad now. Shaking my head. Welp...at least I know all my hermit crabs are ok. I have never had more anxiety about any pet in my life before being a crab owner.

Re: Help! I am freaking out!
I sincerely apologize to anyone who sat there and read that entire post of panic I just submitted. So....after I submitted my emergency post. I went back to check on my crabs who are scattering to their spots. And there she is...Mama...is her spiral shell she’s been in. That shell is deep apparently...
