Thats good. I once worked really hard on a coconut hut, and it got moldy within a few days (I didn't soak it as described). The hermies loved it but I had to throw it out.

It might help to prevent mold by soaking the wood in declorinated salt water for 24 hours

Congrats on the new crabs! If you don’t want to get a glass lid you can use something like plastic wrap. If you get the brand of heat mat Xenocrab mentioned but you can’t insulate it, you can wrap tinfoil around a peice of cardboard.

All you really do is check around each side of the tank but sliding a knife against the glass and in the sand and you wiggle it around a bit.
