I think maybe you should wait till it molts then see if it is a concern or not. Did it already have missing limbs when you got them or did it lose them after you already had them in the tank?

I wouldn’t recommend getting the heater to put on top of the tank. My reason being is that the hermit crabs could dry out not being able to escape the heater if needed. I’m sorry that happened, did they have painted shells on, because they could have been put into painted shells with it still wet and dried with them in it, and when they changed shells they could have hurt themselves. (This is only a guess)
