Re: Pinchy Palace Journal

Terranium The moss seems to be doing.. okay? The patch on egg crate seems to be doing better than the others. It has a little less light as it's high up but off to the side. The one directly under isn't as green as the other ones. The one on slate looks.. neither good nor bad. When I got the moss, ...

Re: 2 Hermit Crabs have not molted - I have had them for 4 months

Hi guys, I currently have two hermit crabs, and they have been with me for four months. They have not molted, and I am concerned that they should have done that by now. They both are PPs and inhabit shells with a 3/4 -1 1/4 inch opening. I have a substrate that is half EE and half playsand, but it ...

Re: Local mosses?

Aussie wrote up a plant guide on what is safe and isn't. I can't link it right now, but it is stickied in the DIY section, listing all safe planta General rule, quarantine good at least 1 month. Get your municipality to make sure the forest is not sprayed. Some plants are toxic to crabs. Generally, ...

Re: Potential lost crab out of tank

Found him actually climbing my storage rack! He was climbing up when I came back. It squatted down mid climb. Thanks, I wouldn't have looked up without your comments. He's back in hiding in the tank now. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200109/27ec053fc73f296380c71477bfc2bfe0.jpg Sent from my Pixe...

Potential lost crab out of tank

So I forgot to close the lid after my crabby chores last night. Crab care 101. I was in a rush to get to work, but I closed the lid, closed the door to the crab room and put on a humidifier. I didn't see one of my big ones at quick glance. IF a crab escaped.... 1. How far could a crab go? 2. Are the...

Re: Dried Seaweed

I feed 3 types of seaweed - sushi nori from grocery store / amazon, and red and purple were from a LFS.

Flooding (outside the tank)

There will be a potent rainstorm this weekend, and I am a very worried that my basement apartment will flood. In case I need to leave for 1-2 months, what do I need? I have a spare 10 and 30 gal, but I don't want to haul sand, if I can help it. I can bring them to my fiancee, so we'll have all the f...

Re: New crabitat not maintaining humidity

Dry substrate will definitely zap the humidity. You'll want the sand to be a sand castle consistentcy, so once the sand is remoistemed, the humidity should bounce back. Others on the forum pours some water along the side/corner of the tank. I personally spray all my driftwood so it absorbs moisture ...

Re: Green sand

I buy a medium 2" x 3" baggie from Canadian Chubby Crabs. I already have a huge bag of Timothy hay, and didn't want a tub of extra sand as well.. So I end up just buying a baggie for 2.50.

Re: Upgrade for the crabbies

I've used 2 tier plastic shelves, usually used inside kitchen cabinets.

Pvc pipes as a stand, then put a flooring tile on it.

If you have any large pieces of driftwood, you could make a hammock and put it between as a catwalk.

Re: Pinchy Palace Journal

With plants in the tank now, I lowered the lights so it's only 4" from the top of the tank. I've already hit it several times today, just need to get used to it. Note to self: it's hot when on after a day's worth of light. I was looking into make the light fixture height adjustable with pulleys, but...

Re: Can this aquarium sand be used for the crabitat

The main thing is that it doesn't have calcium and that it's fine enough for the crab to dig through. It should be fine to use it to mix with the rest of your substrate, but I wouldn't use that to replace playsand due to cost only. If you have ever thought of resetting your aquariums, I would keep i...

Re: Pinchy Palace Journal

Haha, neos are pretty tolerant. I've accidently introduced salt (not enough to be considered anywhere close to brackish (1.005+) and they did fine. So I think you'll be fine, but yeah - I do agree with you! Flame moss is a good choice, thimk you'll like it. Honestly I'd skip the SS mesh and sandwhi...
