Ps- if you do get a 40 gal breeder, don't buy the Aqueon glass lid for it. It doesn't fit! It's like a cm or two too big. I read in reviews that's happened to a lot of people with that lid. So weird!

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank
Makes sense, I'll return it and check out the website you sent me. One of my crabs is borderline jumbo so he is going to be so stoked about his upgraded home :) Thank you for your help! Y'all have been great, I may need to bother you again in the future lol Aw glad I could help! Keep an eye out for...

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank
Even though the tray isn't useful, do you think I could keep it, or could it be harmful? I think it might be more of a hindrance than anything. It creates air flow at the bottom, which might dry your sand out, or let the sand leak out. I'd stick with a regular aquarium. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus...

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank
Another thing, I’m pretty sure I ordered the incorrect terrarium so I’ll be returning it. I thought that I could just not use the sliding tray at the bottom and it would be fine, but I’m worried it may affect the humidity. Like I said, I’m new[emoji2358]. Go easy on me lol. Its called thrive easy c...

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank
Thank you so much for the helpful info! Also, how do you maintain the ideal temp without using a thermostat? I know Curly said she plugs/unplugs her uths as needed. I'm too lazy for that lol, so I use thermostats. Here's the brand I've been using for years, and it works well: https://www.amazon.com...

Re: Rabbit Chews for Hermit Crabs
I checked out the ingredients, and 3/4 are on the safe food list. I did see forget me not flowers on an Etsy hermit crab store and an Australia based store, The Happy Hermie. So I'd say those flowers are safe too.

Awesome!LavendarCrab wrote: Thanks. I think I found a solution as to where to put my gauge- on top of the new container hide I made for them. After drying off the gauge and airing it out it seems to be working fine now.

Re: Substrate Issues + Frightened Crabbies
Ok, awesome. Also random question, but I always give my crabs reverse osmosis water, and I don't treat it with anything because it's already filtered. With my drinking water, I usually add some trace minerals back into the water. Would this be beneficial to do with my crabs' water? I believe it has...

Re: Substrate Issues + Frightened Crabbies
I have a glass folding lid, which keeps the humidity in well. Usually, I try to leave it open a bit to ventilate it, especially when the humidity reading is too high, but like I said I'm suspicious that my humidity gauges have given out. I've used a pack of miniature temp and humidity gauges off of...

Re: Substrate Issues + Frightened Crabbies
I stirred it up and added quite a bit more water, and it seems to be a good consistency now. :) It is definitely holding shape. Unfortunately, I really don't have a bunch of hiding places. I have two ceramic coffee mugs that I turned into caves a long time ago, which they really enjoy, and lots of ...

Re: Crab has been molting for 4 months
I have 3 hermits, and I’m a new owner. (Less than a year of hermit keeping.) All three went down at different times in mid-July. The other two came up for about a month, then went back down. But my third crab, shes the biggest out of them; maybe an inch?, hasn’t come up at all. I’m worried that she...

Re: Substrate Issues + Frightened Crabbies
I forgot to ask? What type of lid do you have on your tank? If it's mesh, make sure it's completely wrapped in saran wrap to keep the sub moist.

Re: Substrate Issues + Frightened Crabbies
First of all, my substrate has been too dry, particularly near the heaters. The unusual thing is that I have correct sized pools and the humidity has been super high (according to my hydrometer, which I think might be messed up). I've been pouring water into the substrate and stirring it up, partic...
