Re: Questions and worries
Many of us have done this. It works because the plastic isn't porous, so it keeps the moisture in. You don't need to put any holes in it. The crabs will get air exchange when you open the lid to do tank maintenance. I use glass tops on all my tanks, so they are sealed completely. I've been doing tha...

Re: Soap or no soap for washing dishes?
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't wash/rinse my crab water dishes regularly, only if they stink. (They had dragged food in there and it was decomposing. I had to fill the whole thing with baking soda and hot water to get rid of the smell.) I just dump them and refill. I thought they were talki...

Re: Beta Fish Questions
Wodes is right. Bigger tanks are easier to take care of too. I had Bettas in a 2.5 gal and a 5 gal before. They were rescues from people that didn't want them anymore. So I used whatever tank I had free and room for at the moment. The smaller the tank, the more frequent water changes you'll have to ...

[quote=hermitsinnc post_id=1124502 time=16886733 user_id=42190 For some reason mine could care less about popcorn. Last night they ate a serious amount of tuna and left the popcorn behind! Two nights ago I filled their busy boxes (curiosity cubes from another seller because they where closed at the...

Hermits is right. Those "D" shaped openings on those whale's eye shells are preferred by Ecuadorian crabs not PPs. [emoji3525]

Re: Just got my crabbies some new shells!
Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that purple pinchers prefer shells with round openings. So they will likely only use the green turbos if they are the right opening size. [emoji846]

Re: New Hermit Crab Owner for large purple pincher
Thank you guys for all the help. I am putting the new tank together today but I'm switching her from a 10 gallon to a 55 gallon tank but it's 48" long and 18" tall. Is the best way to heat it still the mat on the back? Do I just get 2 or 3 to cover the whole back all the way up from 6" from the bot...

Check Etsy too. Sometimes shops on there have larger shells available.

Re: New Hermit Crab Owner for large purple pincher
It was autocorrect. I typed molting. I realized knew it was her exoskeleton once I saw her in her shell and we brought back most of it and put it back in her tank by her coco hut. My number one goal is to make sure I know how to set up the tank for her to be comfortable and healthy especially while...
