HELP: EXTREMELY TINY WHITE BUGS IN BOTH WATER DISHES?

Post by Kellie » Tue Jan 17, 2017 10:16 pm

So I just returned to my apartment tonight after changing water like 2 days ago and there are very small bugs in the water!!! They are grouped together in bunches and are absolutely tiny and clear.
I'm very worried what they could be and why they are in my water!

Also, one of my walls of my tank where a heating pad is is covered in salt (next to water containers) because of salt water evaporation.
Do I need to clean that or is it ok?

Thank you!!

Also saw about 3 in the honey I left out.. Tons in the water though tried to get as many as I could with Turkey baster

Check the "what is that bug" section of this forum. I think it's archived but super helpful. Also could you post some pics? I know the first instinct is to wash them out but it would help identify.

Didn't look like anything in that thread unless they are larve of one of the things.
Will post the best pic I could get.
Got most out with Turkey baster but few still floating about.

Most likely they will be springtails, mites or booklice. A nice closeup picture of the bugs in question will help! All are safe (except mites, if a mite is on a crab consider them bad, if they not on the crabs consider them good. ;) )

Probably food mites my tank had them I'd find them on their food and they'd get in the fresh water too. Looked just like those. Weren't a problem just very annoying how fast they get into stuff when I put fresh water and food in my tank.

I find them in my water bowls all the time, just like that. They are food mites of some sort. They get into the water bowls and drown.

If the salt is bugging you, wipe it off. If not, it's fine to leave it there.
