White Specks in Water!

Post by piratetoothgir » Tue Jul 10, 2018 8:06 am

I just noticed this today as I was checking up on everything, and these tiny white specks were floating in my freshwater pool. Does anyone know what they could be?

Those look like springtails to me. (especially if they are jumping trying to get out of the water). They are great little bugs. Help keep the crabitat clean. A lot of times you will see a bunch of them, and then they will get in check.

Edit: Not harmful at all to the crabs :)

Oh, that’s a relief!
Where did they actually come from? I don’t mind another type of bug in my tank, it really helps me out.

They love in your home and gardens, but due to the tank being warm/humid, they tend to be in larger numbers (and also free supply of foods!)

@hermie escape artist - in your case, it could be springtails or food mites. Neither are harmful. Check out what's that bug under the forum :)

I have food mites, springtails in my tank and i call the food mites "the avengers" as a tribute to thanos, my favorite purple grape.
i have not found a name for the springtails yet, they just come to me.
I love my little Acorn! #besthermitcrabever
I also Love Jesus! My favorite food is doughnuts, my favorite drink is orange soda,
and my favorite color is gold! (I like shiny things)
