Fruit Flies but no fruit used

Even though I clean my cage frequently and have stopped using fresh or dried fruit, the cage keeps getting infested with them. I just read about how to kill fruit flies, but I would like to know how to prevent them in the first place especially since I'm not using any fruit. Thanks for your help, the crabbies seem miserable.

Here's a website that might help you prevent fruit fly invasions:

I was just thinking, do you have any live plants in your tank or home? Maybe the little pests are fungus gnats and not fruit flies. Just a thought. They might like the moist substrate.

I think they can come off of any fresh food. To combat them, use only dry foods. Take the foods out when the hermies are less likely to eat.

I was wondering if they were fungus gnats as well. Are they hanging around the substrate in the tank more, or are they flying around inside and outside of the tank?
