Is it necessary to have leaf litter in my isopods tank?

For everything isopod - breeding, keeping, and as clean up crews. Also known as pill bugs and rolly-pollies!

NP! They will breed so fast! You'll have a huge colony before you know it.

Speaking of breeding, while watching them this morning I saw a gravid female running around and munching on leaves. Super excited! :D

Well, mission accomplished. Woke up this morning to about a billion cute little white specks running around. They're adorable!

Congratulations! Just an FYI, the moms carry their babies until a certain age :)

It is also possible to get springtails and food mites in their tank as well.

Yeah, thanks for letting me know! I read the isopods thread and learned all about them before undertaking this project  Didn't want to mess up.
They're definitely baby isopods, even looked at them with a magnifying glass :D
I got home and noticed one isopod figured out how to climb up the silicone on the side of the tank... when I gently took her off, I noticed she was also very gravid... and then she did that "panic and have babies so they'll live" thing and I quickly put her in the leaf litter so I wouldn't be covered in baby rollie pollies. :hlol:

I'm kinda worried now... some of the babies have been digging underneath the eco earth against the glass, which was fine, until I saw some not moving and curled up. I don't know what happened, if they're just resting there or if they got stuck and died?? Some of them haven't moved for days.

Okay, thank you. I'll just have to wait and see. Do you know how long it takes for them to grow up?
