Salt water mix

Post by Mittmom » Sun May 10, 2020 11:55 pm

I have been using a sample bag of Oceanic aquarium salt for the year and 4 months I've had our crabitat. Now it's finally run out, and I can't find anymore sample bags (small and low cost). Is the Zoo Med Hermit Crab Salt Water Conditioner an okay product? If not, what have people been successful using? I really liked the ease of mixing the salt/mineral grains into the water, as opposed to buying salt water bottles or whatever. Thank you!

Hi!
I don't believe the Zoo Med conditioner has the minerals crabbies need.
Most of us on here use Instant Ocean. I know you can buy it at pet stores, but here's a link to the box I bought on Amazon in case you'd rather shop online:

I bought this 3 lb box in Aug and I'm still using it. Image

Even that price is a little high. A 10-gallon box runs around $6 at major pet stores.

I am also trying to get instant ocean and I was wondering since I’m in Canada do you think Petco will ship to me or will it get stuck in the US. I looked at the Canadian tire part that they had but they did not have the instant ocean they only had like dry and wet dog and cat food.

The only place I have found it in my part of Canada is at a pet store that sells fish.

Big Als, maybe? They still have mail order on both sides of the border, don't they?

They should have some brand of marine mix. Instant Ocean tends to be the easiest to find but it doesn't make the only brand or the best. There's a list of some of the more common ones in the Water FAQ.
