Molting spots

Will hermit crabs change molting spots if the one that they find is inadequate e.g. too hot or substrate too dry?

What do you mean? Usually they dig themselves a small cavern and sit there until they’re hardened enough to dig.

Like if they find a spot that’s too hot or cold for their liking, will they switch spots or will they just stay there?

Once a crab digs under the sub, they will often move for whatever reason. So yes, I would say if they don't find a 'good' spot when they first go down, they will move before they molt.
