Live plants in crabitat?
Live plants in crabitat?
So I was wondering if anyone grows live plants in their tank? And if they do what do the crabs like the best. I was at a nursery and almost bought something and couldn't find it on the safe/unsafe list. I did get a little terro cotta pot and want to plant some seeds in coconut fiber and see if it will grow I just dont know what to plant?

I know you can plant chia seeds. Just scatter them around. I'm sure there are more.SylysJ wrote:So I was wondering if anyone grows live plants in their tank? Chia and wheatgrass do fine, though I’ve had trouble with mold when they’re around.
Air plants may work, but they’re likely to be shredded.
I’ve also read about crabbers using pothos plants. There are posts around here somewhere, but if you buy it organic from a garden store, you can pot it for three months, then transplant into crabitat. The crabs won’t eat it, but you may have to take precautions to protect the roots from burrowers.

You can plant basil plants, that’ll most likely wilt and die, but the crabs will eat it!

Just an FYI - anything you purchase you need to convert it to organic before you put it into your tank. I think I remember it taking a good 60 days. Anyways - purchase plant off of safe list. Remove all soil. Plant in worm castings, eco earth or peat moss. Prepare for plant to get eaten!

Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

I usually reccomend around a month or so. But likewise, longer is never a bad thing! If its a thick woodly type plant, then longer is definently better!GotButterflies wrote:Just an FYI - anything you purchase you need to convert it to organic before you put it into your tank.
