Only Eating Treat Items

Post by hermiwormi » Thu May 31, 2018 2:57 pm

After I started adding in special treats like organic oats with fresh honey, plain cheerios, plain popcorn, sometimes crackers, and other food items, the crabs will rarely eat their fruits, vegetables, protein, and other staple foods now. When I tried taking the treats out, they won't eat anything else until I add the treats back into their meals.

All those treats contain sugars and carbs.

Have you tried healthier alternatives, like oats, brown rice, or millet?

Just noticed you were giving them oats. Whoops!

Although they may have been attracted to it by that sweet, sweet honey.

Those are not treats, that is still food to them! They do eat grains in the wild.

If you want to try something different, then I would consider trying homemade foods. I was able to make granola by baking oatmeal that I had coated in coconut oil, quick easy snack.

You may also want to try millet, that’s a great choice for them.
I feed mine puffed, but you can do dried. Popcorn is also a great favorite and always gets chosen.

Thank you all, and yes I agree that the honey is attracting them to the oats
