Himalayan salt rocks

Post by piratetoothgir » Tue Jun 12, 2018 4:45 pm

Could I put a rock of pink salt into my tank?
They would really enjoy eating that :)

I think that should be safe... The main concern with table salt is the anti-clumping chemicals and other compounds. Himalayan pink salt usually lacks them.

Pure salt likely won’t cause problems, but it may dissolve if it gets water on it. Do you have a small dish you can serve it in? That way, if it gets wet, it won’t run off into the substrate.

Yes, I do have a dish :)
I was thinking about hanging it from a twine string, so they could eat from it.

That would work, too. I am just cautious because we don’t want to get too much salt in your sand (though I may just be overemphasizing things. Your call).

Just keep an eye on it. I’m sure your crabs would love it!

They actually make Himalayan salt blocks for hamsters/rodents on a rope. I had bought some last year I think. The humidity in my tank melted them rather quickly. IMO You’d be better to offer it in a dish.

I tried feeding them Himalayan salt but they didn't like it. They never touched it and the humidity just turned it into a mushy mess.

Okay! I don’t really want a melting salt block, so I won’t hang it.
I have offered it to them in a powered form wi5 their dinner.

Ok. Maybe they didn't like the crystals I gave them.

I offer himalayan salt to my crabs - fine granules. They love it. :)
