I bet they do! If you can find an organic brand that would be best. They just can’t handle the trace amounts over time that is found in a lot of stuff, preservatives- even natural- may not always be beneficial to them.
I’m still a little new, but I’m sure one of the other people can tell you even more. HTH!

Re: dog food- what brand is best?
Did you check the label on the dog food to make sure it doesn’t contain any type of preservatives, or any unsafe additives that wouldn’t be good for the crabs? I know that you said it’s natural, but a lot of natural food brands still put some types of preservation their food to prevent it from immediate spoilage.
I personally would not be feeding my crabs dog food, but this is just me.

Note that in the U.S., preservatives don’t have to be listed if the company didn’t add them themselves (i.e. the ingredients suppliers added them beforehand).

I don't think I would ever trust dog food to be organic and natural enough to feed my crabs.

Wow. Really? That’s kinda insane really. I mean, I knew the USDA was nutty but that’s just... dirty.JoeHermits wrote:Note that in the U.S., preservatives don’t have to be listed if the company didn’t add them themselves (i.e. the ingredients suppliers added them beforehand).

It’s not quite as bad with human food, but pet food has way fewer regulations.Overmountain1 wrote: Wow. Really? That’s kinda insane really. I mean, I knew the USDA was nutty but that’s just... dirty.

I’d have to dig up the source for this, but I heard that there are still traces of ethoxyquin in many dog foods even after the giant “no weird chemicals for my dogs” thing.curlysister wrote:I don't think I would ever trust dog food to be organic and natural enough to feed my crabs.
It’s still used in some places to preserve the ingredients.
