Best Hygrometer?

Post by Bean2011 » Wed Aug 02, 2017 5:55 pm

Hey everyone! I just set up a new tank for my teeny's! It's a 10 gallon and I'm currently using an aquarium lid with a light for heat. I know I'm going to need better humidity, but I also need a way to measure it. What works best for you guys?!

Thanks!

Many use a brand called acurite. These can be found at Wal-Mart or any hardware store for under $10. They're usually kept with ac filters... They're also digital and measure both temp/humidity. You'll want to calibrate them before use.

I started using this wireless one for a snake tank about a month ago... and seems to work pretty good. Fairly cheap as well:

Here is what I prefer which is what Daws is referring to. Walmart, or Amazon :)

Perfect! I will be ordering one on Amazon shortly or I'll check my local Walmart first!

I've been using this one for a little over a year with great results. It's very similar to the one CharlesMTF linked but costs a little more. I used to use the other acurite linked but the screen messed up within a couple months, even with trying to be careful about moisture and sand.

All are great options. You really just want to avoid placing it directly onto the substrate which would allow hermits to climb on it and knock sand into the back. Some hang them with fish net from top of tank, or command strip them to something

I've sent my accurate flying a few times off the shelf in my critter room and it's held up very nicely.

They do tend to die inside crab tanks after a year or two though. At that price I'm not sure it's a deal breaker though.

Just remember whatever you get to calibrate it before using as even brand new ones can be inaccurate! They should be checked regularly as well just in case they start to fail and it goes unnoticed.
