Yes, that much! LOL! Seems crazy, eh? That's why most of us buy the big (cheap) bags of play sand and add EE to it. The Fluker's is safe, I was corrected above.

I don't think you should need to change it out completely....why not just add to it? You can add up to an inch of substrate per day, as long as you don't pack it down. Even if someone is underneath, they will be able to dig back out. Most of us 'spot clean', removing poop and bits of food that the crabs drag around. In 8+ years, I have never removed and replaced all the substrate, I have only added more as I upgraded tanks and they grew larger.
