Tank Upgrade, Temp not high enough. Suggestions?

This is where you discuss the conditions of your crabitat -- temperature, humidity, substrate, decorating, etc.

Motörcrab wrote:Our personal favorite UTH's are the Ultratherms we must have a dozen of them between all of our tanks. I found they are cheapest from Reptile Basics. Bean Farm also sells them but they are $5-$10 more each there compared to Reptile Basics. They are available on Amazon but for quite a bit more than BF or RB.

We prefer the Ultratherms because you can insulate them, and since they don't have a sticky backs like ZooMeds you can pull them off a tank easily and put them on another.

We just tried Reflectix for the first time. We got a 16" X 25' roll for around $16 at Lowe's. Its way easier to work with than the insulation board. I don't think it has quite the insulating value of the board but probably more effective than cardboard and aluminum foil.
Thanks for your input! I'm so clueless on UTH but I always want to help a fellow crabber in need. I think she may have an Amazon gift card and is trying to buy her stuff from there. But like you said, the ultratherms are more expensive there. ImageImage

Thank you! I'll check it out right now, as I need one that's for my side of the 10 and want to make sure it will fit!
Try and find a UTH that will cover as much of the length of the tank as possible. Also that covers from the top of the tank to about level, or just under your substrate height. For a 10 gallon I have found that an 11 X 17 is about perfect!

Fleabag made this guide last year for getting your heating set up correctly. The guide is for a 55 gallon but the installation and reference will still be the same. For the insulation, Reflectix can be used as well.

Looks like Fluker's has the 11x17 size Motorcrab described. Image

I would go with the 11x17 Flukers. I have found it is way easier to cool a crabitat than to heat it up. A thermostat and possibly removing insulation will cool the tank if need be.

Thank you! I think I might buy one of the heaters you suggested, for when I get a bigger tank. I need to get some that can go on and off (I'm spending too much on adhesive ones that I can't reuse, ugh)!

With the Flukers, an 11x11 does an incredible job on a 10 gallon, with very little insualtion. I got 20+ degrees above room temp with mine.

I would check out your gauges. It sounds like you may not be getting an accurate reading. I know the analog ones I bought "specifically for hermit crabs" wouldn't go over X degrees, even though there was more room for it to go on the scale.

I have a ThermoPro one and it seems to work fine (I don't buy any specified for hermies)
