How to Cook / Sanitize Sand from outside?

Post by Xenpurgisn@cht » Tue Jun 09, 2020 3:02 pm

So there's a possibility I'll be getting a 29 gallon soon and I'm worried I won't have enough substrate to meet the basic 6 inches. I'll be moving the substrate from my current 20 gallon + slightly less then 1/4 a bag of eco earth, but we have playsand outside that's in our little cousins playbox and around our pool, so I wondering how would you ''clean'' sand from outside to make it tank safe?

I think when I last baked my sand I did it at 300F for thirty minutes.

Chemicals are hard to remove from sand, so if there has ever been any kind of spills or contamination, there isn't a way to make it safe. Baking will only take care of living things like bugs and bacteria.
