Re: heat
A big huge UTH to go across the back would work.
Personally, I have four UTH's on my 55 gallon. The room temps vary greatly between seasons. So I can plug/ unplug them as needed. Partly I was too cheap to buy a big new one when I upgraded tank sizes, so I just kept adding more, LOL. But it works well for my set up.

Re: heat
We used an 11X47 Ultratherms from either The Bean Farm or Reptile Basics. We use a thermostat to keep the temperature from getting too hot. We also have it insulated to direct more heat into the the tank. Based on your location you may or may not need to insulate or maybe only insulate a portion of the UTH. It's really hard to say for sure since every tank, and location is slightly different.
