When I get the second do I need to keep the separate for a period of time or are they ok to be together as soon as the new one comes home?

When I got him I bought a bunch of painted shells but now that I know those are not good for him I am keeping them out of the tank and I ordered a bag of non painted shells in a variety of sizes close to his that will be here Wednesday.

If he decides to go down to molt in the 2 weeks I have to quarantine, would it be best to wait until he is done before getting another crab? I don't know if that is likely to happen but I just thought of it and thought it would be a good thing to know.

you could wait yes because molting crabs have an irresistible smell to other crabs making them seem like a snack
