Large shell... small crab.

Post by Irvingsmom » Thu Jan 23, 2020 8:40 pm

Irving decided to change pants last night. He is a bitty little crab who decided to pick the largest shell on the crabitat to crawl into. Is he gonna be ok? I imagine the shell is awfully heavy and I think he’s being stubborn and not wanting to leave it. I am a new crab mom and just need some peace of mind!

If he doesn't like it, he will find new pants!

Agreeing with Xenocrab: if he doesn't like his pants, he can return them and get a refund (a.k.a. new shell).
Three PPs (Hoodini, Aaron Burr, and Jubali)
Love my deceased baby crabs George Washington, Zero, Domino, Billy, Eduardo, and Shelly too 🥺

Every individual crab has his/own preference when it comes to shells. As long as they have a variety to choose from, they will be ok.

My crab Kaulder is def in pajamas that are too big for him, but he doesn't seem to mind and carries it around ok. If your crabby gets uncomfortable he'll switch.

Be prepared for the crab to go down for a molt. One of my babies (yes captive bred baby) did that at 18mths of age... Changed out of an 8mm shell into a 15mm.... I thought he would give it up quickly but nope... Then he vanished for a couple of weeks and came back heaps bigger and filling that shell nicely.
Crazy crab lady with 1 male raised in captivity who is now 7 yrs old (Dec 23) and a 2 females I've added from rehoming or adoptions to add to my breeding colony.
