Crab spend all the time under the ground!

Post by Vitalik_Miron » Sat Jun 13, 2020 7:17 am

Few weeks ago i bought coenobita rugosus crab, after two days, he went to a molting, and three days ago he successfully molt, walk this days with other crabs, but now he goes under the sand and spend most of the time here, from time to time open windows near the glass, so i can see him. Is it normal for hermit crabs to spend so much time under the sand after molting?

Yes, it is. They are natural burrowers and are just at home below ground as above.

When preparing for and recovering from a molt they can remain underground for months.

Did your crab molt on the surface?

No, he molted under the ground. Spent 10-11 days, recover some parts of his walking legs, meet another hermits and went under the sand again

Thanks! Just a Lil bit worring, my other crabs after molting spend all the time with other hermies, but this one try to hide, but everyone accept him very well, with no aggression, or smt like that
