Are air plants considered safe for hermit grabs?

First thing, welcome!

Secondly, yes. Airplants (whether its a spider plant or a Tillandsia) are safe to add to the tank. Just make sure that no recent fertilizers or pesticides have been sprayed on it, so if recently store brought, grow it out of the tank to allow toxins to escape - since they will most likely eat it - for a couple of weeks is highly recommended.
