Crabitat Fume Exposure

Post by hermiwormi » Sat Nov 17, 2018 11:34 pm

My sister was over visiting and lit a scented incense stick in the same room as the crabs. Ugh. I didn't realize until I came back, seeing that it was halfway burned down and the room was filled with the smell. I'm pretty worried, though no one seems to be acting strange in any way. Could this affect anything within the tat? Could it make anyone seriously sick?

I burn candles in my living room often and my crabs aren't bothered at all.

Maybe as long as it isn't something meant to harmful, it's fine...right?

If your tank is mostly sealed it shouldn't be a major issue. Mine has a glass lid and the only active airflow into it is the pool bubblers. As long as you aren't burning the incense in the tank it should be fine.

Right. I mean, I keep the candle on the other side of the room but none of our animals are bothered by the scents.

I'm with everyone else on this. If you were burning incense or scented candles in the room 24/7 I could see it posing a problem over an extended period of time. A random night I doubt would pose any problems unless you had a screen to with no protection over it. I would be still be cautious using any types of cleaners or sprays, or smelly stuff directly on or near the tank.

I do sage cleansings in my home every 3 months. I haven't had any issues with my crabs at all.

Thanks all! I always get so nervous over anything done around my crabs.
