Try using distilled water if tap is leaving residue. Vinegar can be used for tough spots, but that will have to be wiped up after with a damp towel to pick up residue.

I use white vinegar inside of my enclosures, and windex on the outside - sprayed on the paper towel away from the tank.
If there's any kind if buildup then I break out the razorblade! It's faster, and when used with water or vinegar there's no risk of scratching.

My Mom has a cleaning business, and the best paper towels to use on glass are Scott paper towels. Over the years, we've realized you can have the best cleaner, but if the paper towels are no good, you'll still see streaks/smears.
