where do you all keep your crabitat??

Post by Guest » Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:28 am

hello to everyone ! havent posted in a while.ive had our crabs allmost 9 mos now,and embarresed to say i was thinking about adopting them out,but thats not really what i want to do.i suppose i just got overwhelmed with the care they require and that i am the only one who does it.plus they kinda got forgotten here in the office  so... ive decided to do my first deep clean and replace with all sand, i really like the way the sand looks and all of my molters have done it in the sand part of the tat.
im also going to do some redecorating and was thinking about possibly moving the tat into our "living" aerea so they are more a part of our family. what do you all think? where do you keep your tank?

I keep my crabs in my bedroom, right where I can see them whenever I go in or out. :) I think it's good to put the tank where you'll see it a lot, because otherwise you don't notice their funny antics and all that, which really is part of the fun of keeping crabs. :)

Right now one tat is in my bedroom, and one is in the living room. We are moving this weekend. The big tat will be in the living room, right when you walk in the front door, and the small one will be in the family room.

I think it's important that pets are where you can see them regularly. You can't enjoy them if you never see them, and it is easier to forget their needs or miss emergencies -- out of sight, out of mind.

jamie and kyla

It's great to have you back. I remember posting when you said the crabs were too much for you and you were going to adopt them out. I said that I was sorry to see you go but that maybe you should reconsider. And you did!

Crab care can be overwhelming. I had a two week period recently where I wasn't well enough to take care of them the way I usually do, which is spoil them rotten. During that time I at least managed to throw some food in the tank and added water to the bowls every day or two.... or three. They were fine.

So now, if I don't feel up to doing my elaborate cleaning ritual for a day or two, I don't beat myself up.

So, again, glad to have you back.

Let's see right now I have the following for tanks:

Computer room (spare bedroom): 75G Crab tank, 20G ISO Crab tank, and a 55G Goldfish tank

Living room: 29G tropical semi-aggressive tank

Dining room: 55G waiting for it to cycle so I can move the fish from the 29G to it. Then the 29G will become a tropical community tank.

I am glad to see You posting again!! :D I know how over whelming things can get at times.

Lets see our guys have been all over our house thru the years LOL. We used to keep the crabbies in the living room, but then moved them into the toy room when we realized there would be no room for people and a tree at Christmas. Then when I felt the same as you , that there was no real interaction going on with them in that room(other than me caring for them), I moved them into our Master Bedroom , where they seem to like it, and I get to see them doing their stuff at a more frequently :)

I have one in my livingroom and one in my computer room. Maybe when the kids are bigger, and I no longer have toddler toys in the living room I'll move the bigger one up there too.

Mine is in my kitchen. It's the hub of all household activity, nobody comes or goes in this house without going through the kitchen, so they get all the visibility they need to be well taken care of. :P

I keep mine in the dining room at the new house. Pretty much it was the only corner in the house big enough for the 92g corner tank. Not really any other option. But it's still a good place, because you can see it when you come down the stairs, and it's by the front window so they get some ambient light. And it's near the kitchen so it's easy to feed them.

At the old house it was in the living room. Again, pretty much the only corner in the house it fit. Same deal there, it was kind of in between the kitchen and the front door, so it was easy to take peaks every time you walked by.

When I was a kid, it was of course in my bedroom. I can't think of any other place for a kid to keep their pet. I was in my bedroom most of the time, so I was constantly playing with them.

It's either got to be in the bedroom/office, wherever you spend most of your time. Or it has to be a part of the house, a piece of furniture that adds to the ambiance of the room and provides an ever interesting display of cuteness and antics.

Stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking crab-herder since '92.

I keep one tank in my bedroom and the other is temporarily in the bathroom. Our downstairs is always very chilly so we keep them upstairs where it's warm. The one in the bathroom is my sister's tank and she's been trying to rearrange her bedroom to make a place to put it, but has been very busy. I hope she gets to it soon though, I want to be able to do my hair in there again. We don't want to spray hairspray or anything around them so I haven't been able to do anything with my hair in ages.

Um... Ditto... 8) lol

I have little choice as my room is the only place to keep the tat that is off limits to the little demon spawn... erm... 3 year old I live with. :P
