Oh heck that’s easy enough then! I knew it had to be something simple. Thank you- you have been a wealth of knowledge/answers for me, I appreciate it.

I am thinking of doing that but weaving some more plants between to give them a leafy wall.

So I always wondered, does the pools have to be deep enough for them to completely submerge shell and all, or just their bodies/shell openings. I wanted to know every ones opinion. The reason why, is I like the natural rock feeding dishes used for reptiles and they come with depths. Or is it better just to get a Tupperware dish and fix rocks ect, to give it the look I want?

The pool should be deep enough for the crabs to fully submerge, shell and all. I only see my Strawberries swim, the rest just hang out pool side dipping their legs in the water. You still need to give them option to fully submerge if they decide to.

Ha! I laughed last night when Dave fell in the newly deeper SW pool.
I stopped in to check on Dave, and he was literally straddling the edge of both pools, perched there like he couldn’t make up his mind. Since I just swapped to the deeper pools, I wanted to know if he’d get in either one. So turned lights back out and sat on the floor to listen and was gonna check to see if I heard him, you know?
Next thing I heard was a plop/chink! Dave was already climbing out when I got the light on, he stopped for a half a second to look at me, as if to say ‘how rude’ and then climbed on out and went back to his typical warm spot lol.
So now I know he has zero trouble getting out even if he isn’t on the side with the craft mesh, since I busted him doing that exact thing! (I was a tiny bit concerned only bc I’m using glass, but knew they def had at least one way out.)
Good info, thanks!

That same thing happened to me too. I went over to peek in at the tank and the one was facing away from the pool. As soon as he saw me he hid and "PLOP" right into the pool! For being great climbers they sure are clumsy!

I always like plastic because I poke or drill holes on the tops of the containers to attach zip ties. That way they will never remove the mesh. Some people use aquarium silicone to attach stones and pebbles to the sides for grip too. Just be sure you allow a day or two for the silicone to completely cure before adding it into the tank. The fumes during the curing time is toxic, but safe once cured.

Alright good to know. I was just curious if there was a reasoning or an article behind it or if it had just become common practice.

Oooooh I LOVE that idea with the pebbles. I have the perfect type of glass pebbles to use- they’ll love it. Yay! Thanks.

They are SO clumsy sometimes! I think that’s the biggest part of their charm... well, that and their buggy eyes and waving multiple antennae.
I actually saw the containers in one of the posts- maybe even this one- and I actually considered doing that too, bc I can see how great those would work too!
I have issues with plastic. I’m totally aware it’s perfectly safe, honestly that’s not even 100% ‘it’ either hahaha... can’t even put it fully into words bc I do know logically that it’s safe. I just... don’t.... like it? Gosh that’s lame.

I’m wondering why bombing down is the best way to get in that pool... Too funny, must just be keeping themselves entertained... Crabs gotta have fun! I have GOT to get me a camera. Can’t wait.

I'm guessing he was making his own amusement park.

Does anyone know the approximate amount of sunstrate needed to provide at least six inches for a ten gallon tank?
