Ruggie (Coenobita rugosus)

Description: Rugs are distinguished by their uniquely shaped claw that has very noticeable stitch marks, and also by their slender off-color shield leg that resembles a sword. They can be found a range of colors - red, blue, purple, green, blue, grey, white, cream, pink, and brown. Darker individuals generally have a lot of setae, giving them a hairy look.

Native Habitat: Found all over the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific.

Temperatures: 80 degrees, slightly higher and lower is safe.

Humidity: At least 70%, though higher is safe for all hermit crabs.

Activity Level: Moderate.

Shells: Turbos.
