Our Crazy Crabby Caravan Caper 1/12/19

The day is finally here! This trip started late December when I inquired about several crabs up for adoption in Ashburn, VA. Before we received a response we got a separate email about crabs people wanted to re-home near York, PA! Xenocrabs and I started to discuss the possibilities of adopting all these guys.

After our discussion we decided we would need to set up another tank in order to give these guys enough room. That's what we did last weekend! Also last weekend We saw another adoption post for 3 crabs needing a home near the first location.

After a week of planning, emails, phone calls, and everything else we are leaving in a few minutes to adopt from all 3 locations! In total we should be rescuing up to 12 crabs!

We thought it would be fun to keep everyone updated on our progress throuout the day.

This is our basic course for the day.
We plan on leaving shortly. 9am EST
First stop noon-12:30
Second stop 12:45-1:30
Third stop 5pm
Home by 7:30pm

Good luck you two! I will be looking forward to your updates all day, it’ll give me something better to do while I’m at work.

You are doing an amazing thing, adopting all these crabbies. They will have a great home with you two.

I love the sign in the car! I was going to adopt 2 crabs from craigslist Thurs and we were emailing back and forth trying to set a time to meet. Then she stopped replying.

We got the first 3 crabbies! This is the tank they came in too. We dipped them in salt water and put them in the travel tank. They are all crawling around and have fresh foods. We are in the second meeting place waiting for the next 4!

There's 4 crabs! Not just 3! They all appear healthy, for what it's worth. No broken or missing legs or claws. The temperature will go up. We have the heat cranked. I'm wearing a tank top because we are spending hours in a very hot car!

Our next 3 just showed up! They are Jumbo! Really big!! The biggest one seems a bit aggressive, no fear and hasn't hidden in her shell at all! Now to head back up to PA before the Virginia snow storm blows in! Everyone is dipped in salt water and seem active!

I’m so glad you two are adopting all these crabs. They’re going to such a great home.

Happy they’re all looking in good shape!

I’m also glad the snow storm hasn’t hit over there yet! I figured it was going to snow in PA and VA today! We’ve gotten 5.5” so far and at least another 12-16 hours before it’s supposed to stop.

We didn't know they were going to be Jumbo's! The add said 3 crabs! I've never had any that big, so I have to rethink climbing toys now! It looks like the biggest is a climber! It's very exciting to learn what these new guys like. We still have 4-5 to pick up! I'll say this much, it's super hot in the car and the crabbies love it!

We are passing through Maryland now and there are a few flurries but nothing serious yet. About 90 mins to our last crabby pick up!
