Oh, didn’t realize that you took them right after decorating.
Yes, mine run and hide when I put a hand in the tank.

On the substrate I sprinkle crushed oyster shell :)

Edit: The other things you are seeing are sea urchins, coral, and cuttlebone :)

I'm glad I found this post again. Your toppers are awesome! We have been playing around with the idea to add a topper to our 75. Been looking at the Medium/ X tall 24 X 18 X 36 Exo Terra's. I really like the Exo Terra terrariums since they have hinged doors for super easy access. I think

Just a few questions on using it as a topper.
I'm assuming you just remove the screen top and flip it upside down? No other mods needed?
Did you just duct tape the topper to the tank to secure it from moving?
With using UVB lighting how and where do you attach it and keep the crabs from getting at the fixture and wires!
How much does your temperature change from substrate level to the top of the topper?
To give my guys a larger temperature range would it benefit them more to keep the ultratherm (11 X 48) across the main tank, or install it vertically from tank up the topper?

I answered in bold :)

Did you just duct tape the topper to the tank to secure it from moving? Correct :)
With using UVB lighting how and where do you attach it and keep the crabs from getting at the fixture and wires! I haven't moved my lighting to the inside yet!
How much does your temperature change from substrate level to the top of the topper? Not much really. I didn't move my heater. It is on the bottom. The light is on the top. Both create heat. Top has a 2 degree difference.
To give my guys a larger temperature range would it benefit them more to keep the ultratherm (11 X 48) across the main tank, or install it vertically from tank up the topper? I would keep it on the main tank. :)

Absolutely beautiful!
Where did you get all of those branches? What did you do to season them so they wouldn't mold?

Thank you! I collect the branches from the forest/woods near me. I bake them in the oven. I never do anything else to them. I never have an issue with mold in my crabitats. The branches are Oak. There are also some cholla branches, and some reptile vines. Image

Thank you! This is kind of an old thread. I change their crabitats regularly. Image I just never move the locations of their pools.

Edit: Wow, I just looked~ it was from over a year ago! I’ll look to see if I have more recent pics, and then I’ll take pics in the next couple of days Image

Your tanks are so beautiful! The perfect combination of pretty and functional. How many crabs do you have in each? I would love to add a topper to one of my tanks one day, and these pictures are total goals.

I wish there was a local crabitat decorator I could hire to redecorate my tanks.
raising son's dog, Dante. Husky/hound.
Raising daughter's hermit crabs, Shelder, Paras and Derek. Added 2 more of my own (of course) Pete and Stryper. Former mommy to 2 guinea pigs and beloved cat, Nissi
