Big cheliped / Big pincer

Post by p2gg86 » Sat Sep 08, 2018 9:58 pm

I believe most hermit crab owners love the fact that their hermit crab pincers are asymmetry in size and shapes. I do love that fact too hence I wanted to share some photos of my crabs' pincers.

Will post more pics when I have a chance later this Sunday! So please share yours when possibleImageImageImage

Yep! This and the coloration is how I tell my crabs apart the second crab looks extremely similar to my crab Ozark; the red gradient and the pincher being more blue than purple

5 PPs: Koa, Moja, Siam, Chella, and Ozark.

I don’t have Tapatalk but here are my crabs’ assymetry in size and shape:

First one is of my female Violet. Violet has been shell shopping lately and I’ve noticed she’s going for shells that have a little bit of green in them so I’m trying to make sure to offer the shells she likes.

Second one is my male Buckbeak, who is in a shell that’s way too big for him.

The dude in the very first picture looks to be very mad with the fully open pincher! We have one crab, Shy Guy, that hides and chips if you pick him up. He also points his big pincher up and away from his shell trying to pinch! We generally don't handle our crabs either. Maybe to move them out of the way while we are doing something in the tank or an inspection after a molt. We can always tell Shy Guy though!

I have one crab who would try to lean out for a pinch too lol.

I personally like to handle and pet my crabs. At first one would be scare and run or hide and tuck. But they seem to learn over time that it is no harm to them and tend to come out their shells and crawl over my hands like a hand treadmill Image but I only handle them when I had something to do with their tanks.

Here is a spider hermies lol

They’re so beautiful! My smallest little tiny Who does that, he’s so tiny but he’s such a little tough-guy, jabbing his little pincher out. I handle mine sometimes when I feed them too, Bob and Crabina seem to not mind at all. Especially Bob, he doesn’t run away from me, I like to think he likes being handled. Lol!
He’s such a sweetheart.
