Loss of two little critters

What has happened? I don't understand. I am the critter keeper at our school. All the pets were fed, the hermit crabs were checked, watered, fed, and cleaned. Upon arriving on Monday morning, Hopper and Sparkles were lifeless, hanging out of their shell. King of the Hill and Om Nom Nom scamper around as if nothing is wrong. To me and the students, everything is wrong. The cage with their pictures is not the same. Our hearts are heavy and they are missed. What could have happened?
