Hard to believe

This area is dedicated to the pioneers who have captive bred crabs, and for those who wish to learn more or attempt it themselves. Also for inquiring about the gender of your crabs.

Is this an adult or 3 kids in a trenchcoat tryna sell some crabs?

Lol. I haven't seen the culprit in person. But he's been the one I've been communicating with on offerup.

Now I'm picturing 3 kids in trench coats standing near an alley on the bad side of town. As people walk by they whisper, "I got Purple Pinchers, Ruggies, Ecuadorians!"

So this is the black market of hermit crabs!

If this person has bred them and they are a year old they will be in shells with less than 1cm openings. Mine are 2 years old and in 1.5cm openings and have been for about 6 months. YES I did breed them and yes there is proof on my breeding thread here. Is this person from Germany and called Christian?

Ok. I got a reply. The vet gave them calcium boosters. :hlol: So I asked for the vet's name in case I needed help with my crabs.

How did the vet give them calcium boosters? Injection/lotion/food? The one crab I could see sort of clearly in the middle of the heap of containers is certainly NOT a year old. It is WAY WAY too big.

No. He's local to me. Knoxville, TN. Here's a pic of them. They are definately older than a year. So many things he said leads me to believe he's lying about everything. He gave me the vet's name. No such person.Image

I know. Everything I've heard on here about vets taking care of hermit crabs is that they don't. The crabs looked really good but I wasn't going to pay $10 each.

I adopted from someone here years ago, it was a teen and his mom was the one who met us by herself. She made a remark about how he had them for a year and they grew from little tiny babies. They had actually died and he was secretly replacing them with bigger crabs - the originals shells were still buried, no way a crab grows that fast!
