Found old Mopani wood in basement, how do I prep for tank?

Post by FSkerlak » Sat Mar 02, 2019 5:56 pm

I found a 15 year old piece of Mopani wood in my basement that I used to use with an iguana. It's a beautiful piece and still looks in perfect shape (I totally forgot I had it!) How would I prepare this to put in the hermit crab tank since it was in the basement for 15 years. Do I need to soak it in saltwater or bake it or something or can I just put it in the tank? Any help would be awesome!! I would love to use this piece of wood!

soaking I saltwater is supposed to prevent mold. I usually do that & then stick the wood in the freezer for a couple days. though that takes longer than baking since you have to wait for the cold wet wood to come back to room temperature again!
