Giving E's their own tank?

Post by odelayheehoo » Fri May 10, 2019 8:43 am

I have two tanks, a 75 gallon tank, and a 29 gallon tank which I added a 20 gallon long on top of, and I was wondering if it would be a better idea to move the two E's I have into the 29 gallon and have all the PP's together in the 75?

From what I've read, they should be fine mixed in together, so it seems to be up to you. Crabs are meant to live in colonies and I would imagine the more crabs together, the better as long as everyone gets along! :)

I had problems when I had a mixed tank. I know a lot of people do get away with mixing without trouble, but I'd always separate by species when possible.

I’ve got PP’s, E’s and straws in one tank and have for around 2 years (since I got the straws), and the E’s have been in with my PP’s since 2015.

No issues.

I only considered separating them so that I could put all ten PP's in the same tank together, and the E's could have their own space.

I would put the E's in their own tank instead of mixing them. Especially with putting 10 crabs in the 75. The E's will feel less crowded in and have more open space to themselves. Just be sure to give more substrate to the E's. I believe 10" is recommended for them.

I’ve had Es mixed in with my PPs in a 75 gallon tank for over a year now and I haven’t had any problems. I keep my substrate at 11”-12” just because I’ve read at least 10” is recommended for Es.
