I have recently adopted 4 new little ones i have sam, dean, cas and Lucifer i love them dearly they all love climbing and are in a 30 gallon tank with coconut fibers and mulch mixed and natural calcium sand and soil mixed with regular water and salt water and food with a calcium dish as well for nourishment.

Calcium sand is bad. Just get plain play sand. Are you using dechlorinated waters? Have you read the care guides on this forum?

I was wondering this but didn’t know when to bring it up. I have some calcium sand in my ten gallon mixed with a bunch of eco earth it is about a 1 1/2 to 4 ratio. I am upgrading them two a 20 gallon and I am planning to use some of that substrate from the 10 gallon since I just changed it a month ago. Do you think it is okay? Also congratulations on your crabs

I'd start fresh. The calcium sand really isn't good for them, and play sand is super cheap so you won't be losing much money by not reusing the sub.
four crabbies: Pool Guy, Karen, Hurricane Sandy, Igor- 3 PPs and an E :)

$5 for 50 pounds of playsand is definitely way cheaper, Like Xenocrab said, then commercial "hermit crab" sand!
Edit: you can find the $5 bags at your local hardware store, to clarify)
Three PPs (Hoodini, Aaron Burr, and Jubali)
Love my deceased baby crabs George Washington, Zero, Domino, Billy, Eduardo, and Shelly too 🥺

Hermielover - that link you posted is safe. That is one of the few products marketed for hermit crabs that is actually safe for them.
However, you will need multiple bags to get your sub deep enough. Multiple bags of the Hermit Beach will cost much more than a big bag of playsand and a block of eco earth.

Well I thought of just doing a 1 ( sand) to 4 ( eco earth) ratio since I have a lot of eco earth

Well do you think I even have to get sand? I have seen some people just use eco earth and there hermit crabs have been around for a while! Can you tell me what you think the down sides of no sand is since I have a very big bag of eco earth.

You are correct that there are people who use all EE. The down side to it is that it can be harder to maintain. It is more difficult to keep the proper moisture without flooding, and it is more prone to bacterial growth. The sand and EE mixture is easier basically. So you can for sure try the all EE, and see how it goes, and change in future if needed. You will still need at least 6 inches or three times as deep as your largest crab, whichever is deeper.

Yeah, you pretty much have to buy the big bag of play sand in person or curb side pick up.
