Pin worms in tank?

Post by nataliextodd » Fri May 08, 2020 10:13 am

So I brought home a pac man frog, who unfortunately has pinworms. Many keepers have told me not to worry about it because these worms help with digestion and don’t cause much of an issue. Wondering how true that is and if that applies to my crabbies?

Crabs would carry different species of nematode, so I wouldn't be too worried.

Worms in herptiles are often tolerated, but they are never truly healthy. If there are a lot present, they may need to be managed, otherwise weight loss and lethargy can occur. An exotic vet can prescribe dewormer to lessen their numbers, unfortunately complete eradication is usually impossible. Fenbendazole is used in herps, and I've been able to either give it directly, or inject it into feeders.
