My crab is buried touching mold!!

Post by Rubylovespd » Sat Jul 04, 2020 11:06 am

One of my hermit crabs made tunnels under the dirt that you can see through the glass. (Like a window underground) And I think he must have brought a piece of food down there with him or something because it’s the next day and there is a big pile of mold in his hole that he looks like he’s trying to avoid. I don’t want to disturb him from molting or whatever he’s doing under there. And I don’t want to try to get rid of the mold or put something there because I’m afraid I’ll make his little cave cave in! Does anyone have any ideas? Or any ideas of why it molded under there?

Can you see food in there? Mold could also be feeding off the coconut fiber.

Generally speaking your hermie would probably burrow away if the mold bothered it.

I agree with Joe. I think your hermit looks fine.

I couldn’t see any food but there is definitely coconut fiber in the substrate. It’s the next day and he did burrow away! Thanks for your opinion!!

He put some dirt in the way of the mold and is away from it now. Once all of them are back up and out I’ll get some new substrate. Thanks for your opinion!

I'm not sure what type of water you mixed in with your EE, but dechlorinated marine saltwater tends to help with mold growth :)
