Molting in a Moss Pit (With a catch)
I have a crab which has currently been in a moss pit for over a week. I know he is not destressing because I've had him for 5 years and nothing bad happened to him. I know crabs sometimes molt in moss pits but I have an issue. My moss pit is quite small. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostor ... atic-decor It is in the ground and is less than 6 inches. Another problem is that because it is small, it dries up quickly and I need to mist it frequently. Should I still mist it even if it has a molting crab in it?

Bye Fred. You lasted almost 4 years with me. Hope you're with my E now! See you soon Reeba as well. I can't believe I lost you only after a month.

Are you sure your hermit crab is molting? It could just like being in there.

He would usually go in there for at most only a few hours. I am almost certain he is molting in there.

I probably wouldn’t just so you don’t encourage the other crabs to go in and disturb him.

Also if anyone who reads this has had a crab molt in the moss pit, how long does it usually take compared to a regular molt?

It’s a PP
I don’t think being in a moss pit would affect duration. A molt is a molt.

Ok. I also hope the moss pit isn't too compact, because I noticed that it looks very compact.

Re: Molting in a Moss Pit (With a catch)
Now that my other crab came up, there is the danger of my crab disturbing my other crab molting in the moss pit. Should I temporarily iso the surfaced crab until the other one comes up?

Wouldn’t it be easier to just iso the moss pit?

Re: Molting in a Moss Pit (With a catch)
well if I were to take out the moss pit, the crab may sense it and become stressed out

Maybe he means to put something over the moss pit to isolate within your tank...like a 2 liter bottle with bottom cut off (and lid off) or something...?
