What types of wood are ok for crabs to have it their crabitats? I am looking for something that won’t rot easily. Like around here we have oak, poplar, cottonwood,birch,maple, apple and others. What I want to do is get a few branches, build a climbing piece, add a larger section where I can hollow out spots to put eggshells.

The woods you listed are safe, but if you want something rot-resistant you’ll want a hardwood such oak or maple. You can also soak the wood in saltwater to discourage mold.

Rot happens. I treat crabitat items with dechlorinated salt water to prevent mold and rot. It's not a fail safe, but we haven't had any mold or rot for years. It works for us in our crabitats.
