3 crabs needing a home near Ashland/Richmond VA

Post by Cpduff » Wed May 06, 2020 9:53 pm

I have 3 happy healthy hermit crabs needing a home for family reasons. They have lived together for 4 years now under my care. There is one large, one medium, and one small. I’m willing to ship them as long as it’s in the US. The cost of the crabs is free, however if I have to ship we can discuss shipping. Please help them find good homes!

Hey! I’m fairly sure they are all Caribbean crabs.

Hi!

I live in southeastern PA. If you can't find anyone near you to take them, and are willing to drive a bit (I know it's a long way), I would be glad to take them. I have a 55 gal with 3 crabs and a 20 gal Long with 1 crab that is molting. When she pops up, I'm going to put her in the 55 gal. Thanks!

Hey! Your tank sounds amazing! What are your thoughts on me being able to properly ship them to you?

I would def be up for that, but I don't know anything about it. I know there are a few people on here that are very knowledgeable about it though. It is going to be pretty chilly at night here for the next week, like in the high 30s, so I know that wouldn't be good. And if you find someone close in the meantime, I totally understand. I'll post a couple of pics of my setup. My 20 gal just has the basics since it's only one molter in there. But I have plenty of extras to dress up that tank if need be. Only my 2 larger crabs have a bond, so I want to keep them in the 55 together. My other 2 smaller crabbies can be switched around if need be. ImageImageImageImageImage

I love your tank! I’m going to do some research about shipping, is there a number or email we can continue to talk on?

Sure! Let me PM u my email. I'm also going to tag a couple of moderators/administrators here who might know more about shipping. If they see the tag, hopefully they'll post or lead us in the right direction!

That's the information we have about shipping crabs.

I didn't read through the information. Your best bet will be to ship on Monday. There is less chance of an issue and the crabs sit someplace an extra day. That happened to a lady with her captive bred babies last year. They were going from basically Buffalo, NY to Pittsburg. I think they were shipped overnight the Friday before Labor Day. Well there was an issue and they did not deliver until Tuesday. Luckily they were ok.

Just be aware that overnight shipping is expensive. I'm guessing $35 -$40 or more. It's the only way to increase the chances they arrive alive.

3 crabs needing a home near Ashland/Richmond VA

I did a little research on shipping hermit crabs last year, about this time. We were going to use https://shipyourreptiles.com. I even called the place for advice and the lady on the phone was as helpful as she could be (she didn’t know too much about hermit crabs) but she was super nice though. They also sell stuff for shipping but most of it could probably be bought or made. We ended up meeting instead of shipping but I think overnight shipping would be the best way if it’s not possible to meet and as @motorcrab said, do it on a Monday.

Thank you Riniky!

I was looking at the temps for the next month in my area. It looks like the nighttime lows never even make it near 68. So it wouldn't be safe to ship them. Image
