I wouldn't take any chances with vegetation you can't identify. You'll want to stick to the safe plants list, or to Kili and Tetra's "harvestables" list to be on the safe side.

Organic baby food works, too--without the ick-factor!

But you won't be able to find "mouse" in that section of the store....

I would highly recommend everything from NarNar's site, http://thehappyhermitcrab.com . Most of her products come in one and two ounce sizes, and are very affordable. I spent about $10 at NarNar's, and have easily 4 months worth of food in a variety of flavors (meats, fruits, veggies, fish, and sea ...

My local "big" pet store has a huge reptile section, and they had it with the other reptile foods.

Their hermit crab tank was another story entirely......we won't talk about that.

They weren't crazy about the rehydrated ones, but they like the dry ones just fine. They went for the gut, too.

Nevermind!

I just realized that eggshells and oyster shells are composed of calcium carbonate, and those are perfectly safe for hermie ingestion.

Sorry about that! And now back to your regular programming....

What are you having for dinner? If you set aside a bit of chicken, turkey, or whatever your main source of protein is, and cook it without seasoning, they can eat what you eat. If you chop it up and freeze it, you'll be able to use it for a while without having to cook again. If you have a spare dol...

Vacation Food...?

I was at my local pet store today, and seemingly hit the jackpot. I came across freeze-dried "instant meals" made by Healthy Herp. At first glance, everything in them looks hermie safe, but I wanted to double-check on the calcium carbonate. Is that form of calcium safe? Here is the ingredient list f...

If you have allergies, just the mold spores hanging around the 'tat might be causing you irritation. I'm highly allergic and asthmatic, and mold in particular will set off all kinds of misery for me.

You'll want to avoid any kind of gravel--they typically won't dig in it, and need to dig to have a healthy molt. Keeping the humidity constant should be relatively easy with the 10 gallon tank. What are you using for a cover? Do you have a full hood, a screen, saran wrap? My ISO is a 10 gallon, with...

Mine like millet, too! I put the whole spray in there, and they'll sit on it and much away. I don't really have anything else that I make myself that they love, but NarNar's Bugs and Nuts is a big hit here in my crabitat (www.thehappyhermitcrab.com). Some like peanut butter (unsweetened, please) and...

Just one taker so far, and I accidentally scared him walking by the tank, so he didn't even have much of a chance! I'll know in the morning how popular it was. Our guys really don't start coming out until way after dark.

My house is never going to smell the same.....

Rehydrating Silversides

I'm about to give my little guys silversides for the first time, but they are harder than rock! Am I supposed to rehydrate these before I feed them, or do they like them this way??
