MIne have been in use for 2 weeks, with not the slightest sign of the crabs picking at them - and it's the tat with the major tank trashers! Jury is still out, but so far so good. I was contemlating throwing some millet in loose as part of my vacation strategy - it's on the safe list as food, and wh...

If you're going to use potted plants, you might want to look at the Magnaturals planter ledges. They attach to the side of the tank anywhere you want to put them, using high power magnets - VERY cool stuff. I use them as moss pits, but they're meant to hold a 4" potted plant, which would make swappi...

The problem is, the Es that I bought for $39.99 a 6-pack in their holiday sale are $119.94 a 6-pack regularly. That's why I decided to risk having them shipped in upstate NY February conditions. (All that white stuff in the picture of the FedEx delivery is SNOW. It was almost all gone after a couple...

I don't think the FedEx guy noticed me taking the picture - it was just a quick snap out the living room window, he was busy watching the traffic. I wouldn't try to order them this time of year if I didn't live close enough that I was confident it would only be an overnight - they're in Long Island,...

The moss smells like moss... I'm not sure where you'd get dirty shoes, but I've got a friend who swears Fritos smell like dirty feet, so maybe it's just that we each interpret odors differently. ANYway, what I was trying to say is yes, the moss DOES have a very strong smell, most dried botanicals do.

Review - Live Hermit Crabs.com
There's been lots of discussion about the merits of ordering from livehermitcrabs.com - here's my experience. First, the reason I placed the order - very simple: I can't get anything but PPs locally, and I really wanted Es and/or Strawberries. Someone had started a thread in October or November abou...

Exoterra climbing backgrounds safe for hermies?
I'm working on setting up my new-to-me Exo Terra, and was surprised to find that the rock-like background seems to be made of something like styrofoam. Hermie safe? Or will they just shred it? Anyone have any personal experience with them?

I refuse to own a pressure cooker - deathly afraid of them - and can't imagine how you steam substrate... it would fall through the holes in any of my steamers. <grin> I haven't had a mold problem since I started hydrating with IO and boiling all my tank furniture in salt water - but you can imagine...
